The ICC Code of Conduct for players and officials helps
protect the unique 'spirit of cricket' in the international game. A new Code was
introduced in 2002 that sought to be stronger, simpler and fairer. It reformed
the adjudication to ensure that the referee could not both lay a charge and then
hear it. It also introduced a set of guidelines to sit with each offence to
provide clearer examples of what was not acceptable.
